I am 55. Began getting tattooed at 51 with a color half sleeve on my right arm. It shows a heart bouncing in Japanese waves as I was uncertain about my relationship. Things got better - the chest piece shows my heart being sewn up after being broken. My left arm is covered with roses and they are growing through a heart - binding it to my arm. Grounded, solid.
My father always felt it was wrong that I would have “my feelings on my sleeve.” I disagree. Putting my feelings on my sleeve, on my body - reminds me I can get through anything. There is beauty in everything.
